RIËD QHSE coordinator Bertus Olde Hanter:
“Siam software delivers the right results, is user-friendly and has an efficient support team!”
He originally wanted to become a fighter pilot, so after finishing GCSE he applied to the air force for the medical selection in Gilze-Rijen. They started with forty candidates and after two days he and three others remained. Unfortunately he was not chosen and had to reconsider his future. Through former GCSE classmates he opted to study at the Higher School for Laboratory Education, which he completed successfully. During his internship at the Radboud University laboratory in Nijmegen he met someone who worked at AKZO and told him, “When you finish your studies, you can come straight to us.” And so it happened.
In conversation with Bertus Olde Hanter, QSHE Coordinator at adhesive manufacturer RIËD Structural Adhesives in Twello.
“I started at Organon in Oss, then the pharmaceutical division of AKZO. Because my roots are in Twente I returned after three years and joined AKZO’s research department in Deventer. In that role I mostly worked on exploratory chemistry, assembling new molecules by chemical reactions. I did that for 15 very enjoyable years until I received an offer from an adhesive manufacturer where I—again with great pleasure—spent ten years in product development, until my previous employer asked me to return to Deventer. After two years I was approached by a recruiter for a job at adhesive manufacturer RIËD in Twello. They were looking for someone to further

Deployment
RIËD Structural Adhesives specializes in the development and production of high-quality adhesives for private-label applications. Companies turn to RIËD for both standard and custom solutions. RIËD’s products are used worldwide across diverse sectors where high-performance joining techniques, repair solutions and durable constructions are essential. From a strong position in multiple markets, RIËD continuously invests in developing innovative products that respond to the changing needs of professionals and industries.
“The great thing about working in R&D is dealing with customer requests for a specific adhesive with particular properties. Often it’s an adhesive we don’t yet have in our range, or a modification of an existing product. Depending on the potential market volume, we may decide to develop a new adhesive. It’s fantastic when we succeed in developing such a product and bringing it into production—but even more satisfying when the customer or customers are happy with it. That’s what it’s all about!”
RIËD’s distinguishing qualities
“RIËD Structural Adhesives was founded in 2004 by Eddie Roosnek, who still serves as managing owner. What began as buying and selling adhesive products from his home garage quickly grew into a successful company. After an initial move to a rented industrial unit, the current company building at Weteringstraat 5 in Twello was constructed in 2011. Eddie’s son Brent Roosnek has since joined the management and works with Eddie on RIËD’s further growth, innovation and future.
We now operate from three adjacent facilities in Twello, including a modern R&D department where testing, optimization and development take place daily. When I started here in 2018 we were about twenty people; today we are forty‑five.”
“Despite that growth, the company is still characterised by short lines of communication and therefore flexibility. That allows us to respond quickly to market developments and changing customer needs—both current and potential. We also distinguish ourselves by offering consistent, high-quality products that are carefully tailored to our customers’ specific wishes and requirements. We make no distinction between small and large volumes. Every customer is important to us. Ultimately, it’s not just about getting bigger, but about getting better.”

The importance of safety data sheets
“When I say ‘our products,’ I mean it literally. Early on we had the ambition to develop our own products in addition to distribution. This strategic choice laid the foundation for RIËD’s growth into an independent manufacturer of high-quality adhesive and repair solutions with a strong proprietary product portfolio.
As our portfolio grew, product classification, safety documentation and regulation became increasingly important within our organisation. It was during that period that we encountered Siam software. The software supported our product development and gave us early insight into the properties and classification of new formulations. At that time I worked as a product developer and later as R&D Team Leader. At the start of this year I moved within RIËD to the role of QHSE coordinator. In that role I am responsible for quality, safety, environment and product compliance, including managing our safety data sheets. Having this expertise in-house allows us to act faster and gives us greater control over our product information and compliance processes.”
Why Siam?
“What I appreciate about Chemeter is the combination of ease of use, reliability and good support. The software produces consistent results and is intuitive to use. The support team responds quickly and competently to questions, so I can almost always continue my work immediately.”
“Chemeter helps me not only to prepare safety data sheets but also to check product information and classifications. In practice the software proves to be a reliable basis for managing safety information and meeting international regulations. Because RIËD operates worldwide, we prepare safety data sheets for a variety of countries and markets. Processes such as PCN notifications can also be handled efficiently through Chemeter, contributing to fast and careful service for our customers.”
